Ingénue in the City

An avid reader and literary escape artist, Jenefer—AKA, “The Jenerator”—didn’t outgrow her love of children’s literature. In fact, one day she found herself with two master’s degrees, an internship at the iconic Horn Book book review journal, and a few years in NYC as assistant editor at Simon & Schuster’s Atheneum Books for Young Readers under her belt.

Twist! Publishing for Grown Ups

One day, during a brief internship at International Books in Utrecht, the Netherlands, an epiphany: kid or adult, fiction or nonfiction, books, magazines, papers, brochures, websites—she loved it all!

The Journey Home

A move to the Bay Area followed, prompting a concurrent move into digital publishing. Returning home to Portland, our hero found an active and growing publishing scene in Oregon, strongly influenced by the late great Cynthia Black of Beyond Words Publishing. Thanks primarily to Cindy’s generous mentorship, Jenefer honed her skills as an acquisitions and developmental editor, co-taught publishing workshops for six years, and made public appearances at Wordstock and on local TV to promote Beyond Words books.

Simultaneously, first part-time and then full-time for almost a decade, Jenefer was the managing editor of Aisle7 (creators of Healthnotes), a leading publisher of digital health & wellness information. She developed thousands of pages of targeted, highly technical content and helped develop all marketing messaging, sales collateral, and website copy.

All the while, it also has been Jenefer’s joy to work with creative folks readying their written work to share with the world. She takes especial delight in demystifying the publishing process and continues to cherish any opportunity to make copy better.

Full Circle

Jenefer met her prince charming and settled down with her family in a storybook house with an enchanted garden, located in Portland’s beautiful Multnomah Village neighborhood. A true happily ever after for this kid-loving; cat-petting; dog-walking; yoga, running, guitar enthusiast, and full-on karaoke diva. Jenefer continues to fanatically consumes books and moving picture entertainment in all formats. Every possible minute, she works in her garden or on her writing. She has been known to hug trees and talk to angels.
